DGUV R 500 schreibt dem Bediener von Erdbaumaschinen eine Ausbildung in Theorie und Praxis vor. Der Bediener soll dem Unternehmer „seine Befähigung nachweisen“. Bei Unfällen mit Personen- oder Sachschäden drohen strafrechtliche Verfolgung und Regressforderungen von Geschädigten oder Versicherungen. Dies betrifft auch Geschäftsführer oder Führungskräfte die zugelassen haben dass nicht Befähigte diese Maschinen bedienen.
